The song thrush is a small thrush that has grayish-brown upperparts and light-colored underparts with blackspots on the breast. The species omnivorous diet includes for example berries, insects and mollusks.

As its habitat the song thrush qualifies both coniferous and mixed forests. The song thrush is found in most parts of Eurasia. The species winters in Mediterranean countries. The nest of the song thrush is usually found low on the branches of a young spruce or juniper.
