European robin
ERITHACUS RUBECULA
birds
The European robin is a quite chubby little bird that is brown from above and has orange breast, cheeks and forehead. The species feeds mainly on insects.
As its habitat the European robin favors a little moist, spruce-dominated forests. The species is found in most of the Europe as well as in North Africa and Central Asia. Individuals nesting in Finland winter mainly in Mediterranean countries. The nest of the Eurasian robin is located on the ground in a well sheltered place, like for example in a hole among the tree roots.
Leaving stumps on regeneration areas benefits Eurasian robin by offering it nesting places.
