POLYTRICHUM JUNIPERINUM

mosses

Juniper haircap is an evergreen moss species that grows to a few centimetres tall. It has green, needle-like narrow and rigid leaves that are glossy on the upper side.

Juniper haircap thrives in open and dry habitats, such as on top of stones and rock outcrops, in xeric heath forests and in sandy soils. It occurs everywhere in the world with the exception of Antarctica.

Juniper haircap has been used as a medicinal plant, in the form of herb tea, to treat kidney stones.

As a common species juniper haircap needs no conservation measures to secure its occurrence.
